Day Hike from Akureyri

The hidden mountain lake is one of our favorite places in de north of Iceland. The lake lies deep into the Troll Mountains surrounded by steep ridges and some of Iceland]s most dramatic lava peaks. Don't expect a demanding hike, but a beautiful one following one of the many sheep trails leading to our destination. At the lake we take time to lunch, relax and even dip in the lake if you accept the challenge.

If you like hiking far away from the beaten track, you will love this trail.

The Hidden Mountain Lake Hike can be combined with other tours or activities if you are planning to stay longer in the north. Reach out to us and we'll be happy to help you out planning your stay.

Tour description:

After pick-up we drive for about 40 minutes to a remote farm where the trail begins. The hike starts with a long slope uphill until the base of the dramatic lava peaks. From here we follow the sheep trails to our destination. At the lake we take plenty of time for lunch and relaxation. And if you are tempted to jumping into ice cold water, make sure to bring a towel. After lunch we leave the lake and walk back allong a basalt lava field looking over the Öxnadalur valley.
