Winter Lake Mývatn

Experience the frozen magic of Góðafoss and Lake Mývatn during the winter time. We take you safely on the icy roads to some of the most beautiful destinations in the north of Iceland. First we explore the majestic waterfall with its icicles which form inspite of the powerful rush of the glacial river. And then we drive on the Lake Mývatn with all its volcanic and geothermal wonders covered in snow.

Our Lake Mývatn Winter tour can be booked as a 6, 8 or 10 hour tour. And if you wish we can add a visit to the Nature Baths, a moonlike spa at the heart of the Mývatn area.

Tour description:

After the pick-up we drive allong the scenic snow covered coastline of Eyjafjörður and leave the fjord over the Vikurskarð mountainpass. It is not a long, but a beautiful ride to Góðafoss. We take plenty of time to visit the waterfall of the gods and explore its surroundings. During the winter the waterfall is covered in icicles and the glacial river turns blue and green.

Then we drive on to Lake Mývatn, one of the gems of Northern Iceland. Lake Mývatns lies on the bounderies of two seperating tectonic plates and is place of volcanic and geothermal activity. We will visit the rootles cones of Skútustaðir and will walk on the frozen lake to one of the little craters. At the Grjótagjá Rift we can jump from from Europe to America. In Dimmuborgir we will hike and get lost in a labyrinth of troll like lava sculptures. And at Hverir you will see the most amazing geothermal area where steam is coming out of the ground at high pressure and mudpools are boiling relentlesly with the multicolored Námafjall on the background.
